Hans Haywood: Managing Member, Founding Principal and Chief Investment Officer
Hans Haywood is the Managing Partner of Panda Global Advisors, LLC and sits on the Executive Committee. Mr. Haywood has over 18 years of experience trading in the financial and capital markets, principally in the Emerging Markets. During his career, Mr. Haywood has successfully navigated several periods of extreme market stress and volatility.
Most recently, Mr. Haywood was a Partner and Senior Portfolio Manager at Sailfish Capital Partners, where he co-founded the Emerging Markets trading strategy for the fund. While at Sailfish Capital, he traded and managed risk for the fund's Emerging Markets portfolio, investing in Latin America, Eastern Europe and Africa/Asia and utilizing the full spectrum of Emerging Market assets.
Prior to Sailfish Capital, Mr. Haywood was a Managing Director at Credit-Suisse First Boston ("CSFB"). From 2003 to 2005 he worked with two other managing directors responsible for Emerging Markets proprietary trading. Between 1999 and 2003, Mr. Haywood was a Director at CSFB where he first worked in London, heading the external debt trading desk for Eastern Europe, Middle East and African countries and then worked in New York, where he headed both the Asian credit trading business, and the Latin American corporate trading business. Mr. Haywood began his tenure with CSFB as a Vice President in Singapore between 1997 and 1999 where he established, traded and managed risk for the proprietary Asian credit trading book and then co-established the firm's customer oriented global Asian credit trading business.
Mr. Haywood was previously an Executive Director at Sumitomo Finance Asia in Hong Kong, a Manager at Baring Brothers Limited in London and a Senior Associate at Bankers Trust International in London. Mr. Haywood received his Masters Degree in Chemical Engineering at the Imperial College of Science, Technology and Medicine in London, England in 1990.
Jason Rok: Founding Principal and Chief Operating Officer
Jason Rok is a Founding Principal of Panda Global Advisors, LLC a member of the Executive Committee of the firm and is ultimately responsible for all the operational aspects of the Panda Global platform. Mr. Rok has over 24 years of experience in the financial industry and worked together with Mr. Haywood in the Emerging Markets group of Credit-Suisse First Boston.
Prior to Panda Global Advisors, Mr. Rok was the Chief Operating Officer at JNF Asset Management, where he oversaw the creation and start-up of a USD 500mm hybrid private equity hedge fund. He was responsible for the development of the operations and compliance platform as well as FINRA filing for the broker/dealer arm.
Between 2004 and 2007 Mr. Rok was a Managing Director at Cantor Fitzgerald serving as the Chief Operating Officer and Co-Head of the Structured Finance and Repo division, as well as being a member of the senior management team and operating committee running the Fixed Income division. Mr. Rok was responsible for the development of the financing desk, recruiting and training a team of two dozen people as well as developing and trading a wide range of products utilizing the firm’s USD 65bn balance sheet.
Mr. Rok was a Director at Credit Suisse First Boston, where, from 1998 to 2004 he was responsible for managing and developing the Emerging Markets Repo book with a peak balance sheet of approximately USD 10bn. Previously, at Credit Suisse, Mr. Rok was a vice-president and held positions within the Proprietary Macro-Trading group from 1993 to 1998, the Liability Management group, from 1988 to 1993 and the operations group for the US government trading desk from 1985 to 1998.
Mr. Rok received a B.Sc. in Business / Economics from State University College at Oneonta.
Mark Landis: Founding Principal and Global Head of Business Development
Mark Landis is a Founding Principal of Panda Global Advisors, LLC a member of the Executive Committeeof the firm and is directly responsbile for all aspects of Business Development. Mr. Landis has over 25 years of experience in the financial industry, encompassing senior management roles on both the buy and the sell side. Mr. Landis worked together with Mr. Haywood and Mr. Rok in the Fixed Income division of CSFB.
Prior to Panda Global Advisors, Mr. Landis was the Global Head of Marketing and Investor Relations at Touradji Capital Management, a commodity focused hedge fund.
Mr. Landis spent 15 years at CSFB in its Fixed Income division, the last 5 of which as head of Global Sales, Research and Marketing for all Fixed Income and Commodity Instruments. In addition, he was a Managing Director and a member of CSFB's Operating Committee, Fixed Income Operating Committee and the IT Committee. From 1990 to 1999, he was the producing Head of Interest Rate Sales.
Following his time as CSFB and prior to joining Touradji Capital, Mr. Landis was the co-founder of the RBS Greenwich Capital Credit group where he headed the US Credit Products Business and headed Credit Sales, Research and Trading for all High Yield, High Grade and structured securities and derivatives.
Mr. Landis started his career on Citibank's International Fixed Income Sales desk where he focused on Canadian clients. Mr. Landis graduated with a B.S. in Computer Science and Economics from Union College.
David McClean: Chief Compliance Officer
David E. McClean has assumed the responsibility of regulatory compliance for Panda Global Advisors. He is currently handling the SEC application to register the firm under the Investment Advisers Act, and is responsible preparing Panda Global's compliance policies and procedures, as well as the code of ethics, and he is assisting with enterprise risk and internal control best practices.
David E. McClean has been Principal of the DMA Consulting Group, a regulatory and business consultancy to the financial services industry (asset managers, hedge funds, mutual funds, and broker-dealers), since 1992. As part of his consulting, he serves as officer or director for certain client firms, such as Panda Global, especially in the start-up phase. He serves or has served in such capacities at Sailfish Capital Partners (CT), Canaras Capital Management (NY), Aladdin Capital Management LLC (CT), Topos Partners (CT), and Auriga USA, LLC (NY), among others. All of these firms are in the investment advisory or securities industry. Prior to DMA, Mr. McClean served as a legal compliance officer at Van Eck Funds, BV Capital Management (a subsidiary of Bayerische Vereinsbank AG) and National Securities and Research Corporation. He has served on several securities industry panels over the years, published articles on securities regulation and business ethics, and conducted continuing professional education in mutual funds for the NASD Institute and InfoVest21.
Mr. McClean received a Ph.D. and M.A. from The New School for Social Research, with research interests in social and business ethics. He also received an M.A. (Liberal Studies/Philosophy) from New York University (1996), and a B.A. (summa cum laude) from Hunter College (1986). He also studied at NYU's Wagner School for Public Service (1987-1989), focusing on financial management and public finance. In addition to his work with investment firms, David is an adjunct professor of business ethics at Rutgers University, Newark, NJ. He holds FINRA's Series 7, 24, 27 and 63 licenses.
Nikken Cullman: Analyst
Nikken Cullman is an Investment Analyst focusing on macro-economic rsearch for emerging and developed countries. Prior to joining Panda Global, Mr. Cullman pursued economic research projects at the Insituto Centroamericano de Estudios Fiscales in Guatemala, the Autorregulador del Mercado de Valores in Colombia, as well as the Earth Institute in Tanzania. From 2004 to 2006, he was a Financial Analyst in Goldman Sachs' Investment Management Division in New York. Mr. Cullman earned a Master's degree from Columbia University in International Affairs and a B.A. in Economics from Yale.
Steven J. Quattry: Analyst
Steven J. Quattry is an Investment Analyst focusing on quantitative economic and investment research. Prior to joining Panda Global, Steven worked as an analyst for GE Capital in their Financial Management Program, serving in a variety of functions such as Mergers & Acquistions for Commercial Real Estate, and Portfolio Development for Capital Aviation Solutions. He received a Master's degree from Columbia University in International Affairs, with a focus on International Economic Policy where his research included China's Outward Direct Investment as well as Statistical Arbitrage opportunities with Emerging Market Exchange Traded Funds (ETFs). He holds a B.Sc. in Finance (summa cum laude) from the University of Florida.
Gianpaolo Mendes Di Martino: Analyst
Gianpaolo Mendes Di Martino is an Investment Analyst focusing on macro-economic research for emerging and developing countries. Prior to joining Panda Global, Mr. Di Martino worked at Elliot Management Corporation, a $16 billion multi-strategy fund, where he was responsible for fundamental research, and macro-themes such as Brazilian agriculture, US Banks, US Real Estate, and the Japanese economy. Prior to Elliott, he worked at Bladestone Financial and Morgan Stanley where he worked in various consultative capacities including analysis of the Brazilian mortgage and securitization companies as well as US interest rates. Mr. Di Martino earned a Master's degree from Columbia University in International Affairs and a B.B.A. from University of Sao Paulo.
Amit Rihal: Operations/Accounting
Amit Rihal is an Operations analyst focusing on all phases of the back office including settlements and trade reconciliation. Amit brings an extensive background to Panda Global in middle and back office, as well as accounting. Prior to joining Panda Global, Amit worked at Direxion Funds where he managed fund liquidity and worked intricately with trustee and outside accounting groups. Prior to Direxion, Amit worked at DA Capital, a $3.5 billion Credit Fund, where he was responsible for all phases working through the lifecycle of a trade from capture to settlement. Prior to DA Capital, Mr. Rihal worked at Millennium Partners, a $12 billion multi-strategy fund, where he was charged with all phases of reconciliation and margin calls. Mr. Rihal is a Cum Laude graduate in Business Administration from Northeastern University.
